I remember when I arrived in Guangzhou over 7 years ago, I was told the only way I could manage life was to get myself a Chinese girlfriend. They were right and wrong. Right that its hard to manage without a Chinese friend. Wrong if they thought the girl was just a translator with physical and mental benefits. And I struggled because I never found a girlfriend those first few years (I could only find friends with benefits).
